Everyday that passes brings a greater appreciation of how hard it would be to give up the comforts and treasures we’ve built up for ourselves on this earth.
There’s a story in the bible (yes, another one… there are many), that talks about a very wealthy man who approached Jesus asking what he must do to have eternal life.
Knowing the mans heart, Jesus told him to sell all of his possessions, give to the poor and follow Him.
The man hung his head and went away sad, because he had great wealth. He wasn’t willing to give it all up for simply ‘a promise’ of something greater down the line… and Jesus knew it.
Jesus then said to his disciples “it’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
He said this because He knows the hearts of man… We love our stuff. It’s hard to give it up, especially if we’re not convinced there’s something greater down the road.
I believe there is. And I believe what I am fighting for is worth it. So I’ll be standing firm and trusting God to deliver. Whether in this life or the next.
If I’m wrong and we’re all worm food when this is over… what does it matter? But like me, I think more and more people are starting to realize there’s deeper meaning to this existence than simply being born, dying then becoming fertilizer.
